Here at Wickham & Taylor Ltd creativity and quality are at the heart of everything we do. We are a family business run by Carole and supported by Martin and Buffy the Labradoodle. We proudly offer a wide selection of floral items for weddings, funerals, corporate events or just because. Carole can create stunning arrangements in classic, traditional, modern and vintage styles.
We offer a wide range of gifts, glassware, teddies, candles, balloons and cards to accompany your flowers. Based in Barnsley we cover the local area for floral arrangements and are able to offer a delivery service within a 10 mile radius of our shop on Dodworth Road, Barnsley. With regard to weddings and events we cover a 25 mile radius but love the challenge of a new venue further afield.
We have an excellent reputation for high quality and standards. Fresh flower deliveries direct from Holland, together with our temperature controlled flower fridge, ensures that we are able to offer you a freshness guarantee.
In 2012 I decided to channel my natural creative flair into floristry. Floristry is my passion and my job. I spent years creating, designing and making dance costumes for my daughters and other dancers for competitions and shows. When they had grown up and no longer needed me for that part of their life I realised flowers were the perfect medium to express myself. I helped out at a prestigious Barnsley florist as a Saturday girl gaining a wealth of experience and knowledge and at this time started to build up the venue styling element of the business. In March 2016 I became a fully qualified florist. The transition into floristry came so naturally and on day one of my floristry course I knew that I should have been doing it all along. Since 2016 I have been a finalist in the 2018 IDO Wedding Awards and the winner in the Global Wedding Awards for Florist of the Year - Barnsley 2018.
Martin has worked for the NHS for 40 years and enjoys working with people. Whilst still working for the NHS he is Carole’s right hand man. You will often see Martin out delivering flowers or meticulously putting the chair covers on at events, whilst listening to Plant Rock. His structured and methodical approach ensures that each chair cover is pristine and all chairs perfectly in line. As well as deliveries and involvement in other aspects of setting up venues, for example, assembling the Twinkle products and Candy Cart, Martin looks after the accounts and undertakes website maintenance.
Buffy, our Labradoodle, is the latest member of the team and joined in July 2016. Although not much help in the shop she loves to meet and greet all our customers.
Changes for 2019
Happy New Year! Martin, Buffy and I would like to thank our family, friends, and customers both old and new for the fantastic support they have given us in our new shop on Dodworth Road, Barnsley. It is good to have a florist shop back in this location following in the footsteps of the legendary Dennis Beevers.
We have now been here for almost a year and over the Christmas period we have taken stock of this first year and have made some detailed analysis of the business and the way it is growing.
In order to enable us to remain competitive and sustainable, and not succumb to the same fate as some of the larger retail companies as well as many small businesses, we have decided to make the following changes:
1. Saturday opening times will change to 08:30 - 14:00 with appointments, for example to discuss wedding flowers/venue styling, only after this time. Unfortunately, due to weddings and other events, particularly during the summer months, we may need to close earlier than 14.00 on some Saturdays.
2. In order to grow the business, on occasions, Carole will be attending various networking events during the working week.
3. Workshops, Teaching, Ladies Lunches, Children’s Parties and other similar events are becoming more popular and, as these are all part of what we offer, this will take Carole away from the shop on occasions.
For any given event, as detailed above, where Carole will be required to be away from the shop, advance notice will be given through our Social Media sites, primarily Facebook, and on our shop front. Workshops, for example Wreath making classes and Children’s parties, will be advertised on our website as some of you may wish to book online for these. Carole will also be contactable by telephone, 01226 381589 (calls will be forwarded to Carole’s mobile if the landline is not answered and a message can be left for her), or by email firstname.lastname@example.org. Carole will endeavour to reply to your message as soon as is feasible.
We hope you understand that these changes are imperative to the success of our business in 2019 and beyond, and we hope that you will feel able to support us during 2019.
